Darrell Austin (D.A.) Heider
He was drafted and served in the Army Air Corps as a Tech Sergeant, flying numerous missions from England to Germany as a bomb site technician during World War II. He was proud to be a veteran and loved attending the 490th Bomb Group reunions.
After the war, Marcella and Darrell were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple, January 8, 1945. He established Heider Floor Service, and they settled in Twin Falls, where they raised their four children—Lee Heider (Jan), Will Heider (Mary), Sherri Heider Wright (Steve) and Terrie Heider Gillenwater (Richard). He was very active in scouting, earning a Silver Beaver award. He helped many young men earn their scouting awards. He served as a Bishop and many other callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He served as Parks and Recreations and Solid Waste Director for Twin Falls County for over 20 years. During that time he built several county parks, including Lud Drexler Park, Balanced Rock Park, Rock Creek Park, Murtaugh Lake Park, Centennial Park, and Owsley Bridge Park. He built them with a very limited budget and he was very proud of the benefit they continue to provide to the citizens of Twin Falls County.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, his four children and Mary Jane’s 4 children, their 40 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of hunting, skiing, hiking, tote goating, traveling, restoring his Model A and participating in the Model A Club.
