Joyce Louise Mattix Knutson
Wendell, Idaho - Joyce Louise Mattix Knutson, 70, a resident of Wendell, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at her home in Wendell.
Joyce was born March 15, 1944 in Havana, Kansas to George F. and Viola Loggan Mattix in her Grandma Loggan’s home.
She traveled by train with mom from Havana, Kansas to Richmond, California. On May 15, 1944 to see her dad.
Her parents moved to Idaho when her younger sister was 6 months old.
Joyce attended Orchard Valley School for the first 2 years and then transferred to Wendell school where she graduated in 1963.
Joyce married Will Close on June 23, 1969. They later divorced in May of 1970.
She later married Eldon Gale Knutson on April 3, 1971. They were later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 28, 1981.
Joyce later worked for Preferred Community Homes in Wendell until July, 2011 when she retired after 15 years.
She is survived by her husband Eldon Gale, 2 sons James (Linda) Knutson of Cheyenne, WY, and Jeffery (Michelle) Knutson of West Yellowstone, MT. and one daughter Kristin (Rick) Carter of Wendell, ID. Four Grandchildren, one granddaughter Kyla Green of Cheyenne, WY, and three grandsons Justyn Knutson of Cheyenne WY, and Devon and Derek Carter of Wendell, ID. Two sisters, Gloria (Ron) Long of Moscow, ID, and Phyllis (Dick) Brewer of Ridgedale, MO, and one brother Tom (Mel) Mattix of Wendell, ID. Joyce is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father George F. Mattix, one brother Sam Mattix, both paternal and maternal grandparents, Robert and Effie Loggan and Carl and Grace Mattix.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2014 at Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wendell, with visitation at the church beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery
