Another great Great Basin Conference West battle took place on Monday afternoon with the Jerome Tigers hosting the Wood River Wolverines in the opening game of their series double. But, the Tigers didn't take long to control the game.
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Pitcher Logan Parker got on board with a single, then stole his way around to third. With Parker in position, Nathan Bobrowski batted into a fielder's choice to first. First baseman Bryan Bray fielded it cleanly and smartly made a perfect throw to gun Parker down at home, but the pitcher's slide knocked the ball loose from the catcher's glove, scoring the go-ahead run. Bobrowski wisely rounded his way to second. He would get in scoring position for Kris Bos, and Bos hammered one deep to left-center. The throw to home was off it's mark and Bobrowski went over the top to get the two-nothing run across. Bos would score on a Cameron Stauffer liner off the pitcher's glove to put the Tigers up 3-0 after one inning of play.
In the Wolverines' second, it wouldn't take them lng to answer. Bray would get on board with a single. Pat Patterson would follow his lead. Then, with both Bray and Patterson in position, Jimmy Hague sent a blooper over the second baseman, and Bray would cut the lead to two. Patterson would score on the next at-bat as Tyler Israel sent one into shallow right as well, nearly the exact spot that Hague found. The two runs would cut the lead to only one, but that would be the Wolverines only two scores as the Tiger defense locked them out for the remainder of the game.
The Tigers put up six more runs, winning game one of their series 9-2.
The series continues tomorrow afternoon in Hailey at 4:30 pm.
