The Wood River Wolverines fell 2-0 to the Mountain Home Tigers in opening round play of the 4A State Softball Championships. The Burley Bobcats fell to the same fate, losing 4-2 to the Lakeland Hawks in the opening round.

The two Great Basin Conference foes will face each other in second round action, with the loser dropping out of contention and the winner advancing with a shot at getting back into Saturday's title game with a loss-free Friday and Saturday.
