Murtaugh Looks to Overcome Small Numbers, Hansen Looks to Add WIns

1A Murtaugh Red Devils
The Murtaugh Red Devils should adopt a new mantra to go with the new football season. "Never Quit" seems to be a resounding theme with the football program that almost never was last season. Head coach Forrest Andersen fields 13 players on a good afternoon. But, that doesn't stop the players from practicing with the intent to compete and win. Playing in one of the toughest 1A conferences in the state is always a challenge, but that seems to be a lesser problem, when these guys see their numbers dwindle nearly on a daily basis. The 13 players gearing up every day after school have one thing in common: a love for the game. Murtaugh hopes that translates into some wins this season. The Red Devils open the year on the road at Raft River, Friday, August 29th at 7 PM.

1A Hansen Huskies
The Hansen Huskies are only 10 miles to the west, but don't have the population problems that Murtaugh does. The Huskies have 35 players practicing this preseason, ten returning starters, including a Marine Corps recruit that just returned from boot camp. But, the Huskies still look down the barrel of a tough season. Only two wins last season isn't very promising, but they, too, play in one of the toughest 1A conferences in the state, with defending State Champion Oakley, and the always tough Lighthouse Christian and Raft River. The Huskies open their season on the road at non-conference Rockland on Friday, August 29th at 7 PM.
