The 2008 Idaho State Football Championships opened last week in three classifications. This week all classifications get in on the action, and ten Magic Valley teams are shooting for titles in their respective classes.
4A
Minico and Jerome made the playoffs again in 2008, and both won their opening round playoffs last weekend. Friday night the Great Basin West Champion Spartans play host to Middleton at 7 p.m., while the Tigers are on the road to face last year's state runner-up Nampa at 7 p.m.
3A
Kimberly and Buhl made the cut again this year, and both squads earned first round wins, as well. The Bulldogs will travel to Pocatello and Holt Arena to face defending state champion Shelley on Friday at 8:45 p.m. The Tribe picked up a big road win over Payette last weekend, but face another road test in Orofino this weekend at 7 p.m. on Friday.
2A
Declo and Glenns Ferry won their first round playoffs as well, and will play back-to-back at Holt Arena on Friday night. Declo gets a real test this weekend against defending state champion West Jefferson in the nightcap at 8:45 p.m., while the Pilots face off with Aberdeen prior to that at 6 p.m.
1A DI
Oakley and Raft River made the playoffs again in 2008. The Hornets are riding a 22 game win streak that started two seasons ago, and hope to defend their 2007 state championship. They start the postseason at home against Tri Valley on Friday night at 6 p.m. The Trojans are on the road to open their postseason. They are at Council on Satruday afternoon at 4 p.m.
1A DII
Carey and Richfield are the two Division II squads in the mix. The 2007 runner-up Trojans are hoping to avenge their last minute loss in the title game last season at the hands of Salmon. They open at home hosting North Gem at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers are back in the playoffs after a brief hiatus. They open on the road in Mackay on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
