After winning two games on Sunday, the Twin Falls Cowboys found themselves in the championship game of the 2009 Cowboy Classic facing Centennial. But it was a game that was not to be.
Barely 15 minutes and two outs into the contest, the clouds came rolling in and the rain started falling. Hard.
The players were called off the field, and tarps were staked over the mound and plate. After a delay of nearly 45 minutes, the rain finally slowed to a drizzle. But the damage was already done. The Cowboys did their best to get the field back into playing shape. Unfortunately, too much water had collected on the diamond. With almost a full game to be played and darkness setting in, the umpires had no choice but to call the game. Both Centennial and Twin Falls were named co-champions of the 2009 Cowboy Classic.
