It was a rough conference opener for both the College of Southern Idaho men's and women's basketball teams, as both fell to Salt Lake Community College on Thursday.
The men battled the Bruins early, and went into halftime trailing by three. Salt Lake would open the second half on a 10-2 run, and from there on, CSI was forced to play catch up. The Bruins were able to hit their free throws down the stretch, and held onto win it 71-68.
The Lady Golden Eagles ran into a buzz saw that goes by the name of Haley Holmstead. The sophomore was lights out for the Bruins, scoring 40 points on 12-19 shooting from the field and 15-16 from the free-throw line. Salt Lake went onto win in impressive fashion, beating CSI 80-62.
Both Golden Eagle teams will be in action again on Saturday hosting Snow College.
