Thursday night turned out to be an exciting night for prep basketball, as a pair of district championship games were decided in the final seconds.
In the 4A Great Basin Conference, the favored Twin Falls Bruins saw a six point lead in the fourth quarter evaporate to the Jerome Tigers. With 25 points, senior Kameron Pearce led the way for the Tigers, as they upset the top-seeded Bruins 54-51. Both teams will meet again on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Jerome High School to decide the conference championship.
In the 2A Canyon Conference, the Declo Hornets gave the top-seeded Glenns Ferry Pilots all they could handle in the conference championship. Trailing by two with just 11 seconds on the clock, senior Tyler Briggs hit a pair of free throws to tie the game up. The Pilots quickly countered, however, as senior Michael Crane drove the lane and hit an acrobatic double clutch shot to put Glenns Ferry on top, 74-72. The Hornets were unable to hit a last second half-court shot to win the game. The victory qualifies Glenns Ferry for the state tournament next week.
