Boise State president blasts football rival Idaho

By Associated Press

BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Boise State University President Bob Kustra
says he sees no reason to continue a longtime football rivalry with
the University of Idaho, calling Vandal culture ``nasty'' and
``inebriated.''

Kustra's criticisms came during an interview with the Idaho
Statesman editorial board Tuesday. Kustra said later, in a prepared
statement, that questions about the rivalry ``hit a sore spot'' and
his comments were harsher than he intended.

Boise State's move to the Mountain West Conference means the
Broncos aren't likely to play the Idaho Vandals in 2011.

Boise State head coach Chris Petersen put the future of the
rivalry in further doubt Monday, saying his team should no longer
travel to Moscow for games. Kustra said Tuesday that he didn't care
if the Broncos ever play the Vandals again.

University of Idaho president Duane Nellis said he was
``disappointed'' over Kustra's remarks and in-state rivalries are
meant to be fun.
