CSI Continunes Strong Recruiting After Busy Off-Season

Twin Falls, ID ( KMVT - TV / KTWT - TV ) With all the changes to the College of Southern Idaho’s Men's basketball coaching staff lately, it's hard to remember that a few more additions need to be made.

"It's been exciting,” said new head coach Jeremy Cox. “Recruiting has gone well. I know Coach Gosar had a great base, [and] I think with my contacts—along with his—and who he'd been recruiting, it is just fantastic."

Fast forward a week, and Cox has already landed two promising prospects for the Golden Eagles program.

"We signed a kid out of Providence, RI., named Shaquille Jones. He's about 6’5, 220 pounds,” Cox said. “He's a combo forward and can play the 3 or the 4. Biggest thing is I like his energy and how hard he plays. He's got a great body—he's going to develop into a very nice player."

Another recent CSI signee has a link to former Golden Eagle, Pierre Jackson, through Jackson’s new NBA teammate, Nerlens Noel.

"We got a kid named Charles Jackson out of Sacramento, CA., that signed with us [from Lassen Community College],” Cox said.

The incoming recruit was teammates with the former Kentucky star back in their AAU days and was the Golden Valley Conference MVP last season, where he led the league in rebounds as a freshman.

“[He’s] a 6'9 kid that we think is skilled,” Cox said. “He's athletic, [and] he really chases the boards—especially at the offensive end."

The NBA connections don't stop there, as the Golden Eagles joined the company of some of college basketball's most storied programs in one very special category. CSI was one of only seven schools to have two players taken in June's NBA draft, and a stat like that has made building the future a lot easier.

"It's made it extremely accessible to getting kids on the phone to want to talk to us,” Cox said.

“That's the College of Southern Idaho. Just again, to have the excitement and enthusiasm for College of Southern Idaho basketball—that just added to it, and I couldn't be any happier."
