District Six's Champneys Wins 2nd National Title

By Brittany Cooper

Green River, Wyoming ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) On Tuesday night we told you about Cooper Champneys, winning a national title in the light rifle shooting championship.

He took home the first national title at the 66th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in Green River, Wyoming.

A true Idaho gem, this is his second consecutive shooting championship.

Last year he claimed the National Junior High School Rodeo Championship in that same event.

We caught up with the 14–year old representing District 6, prior to leaving for Wyoming and he admitted to us he was worried about his talented Texan friends.

But as a freshman, Champneys held his own and scored 325 points.

This is him describing the event.

"We shoot a 22 and you shoot with a rifle with a scope, you shoot laying down, you shoot kneeling and then you shoot standing up which is my favorite."

Champneys actually prefers trap shooting, an event he'll compete in on Thursday at the Rock Springs Trap Club.
