Planet Cheer Scores Big at Nationals

Twin Falls, ID ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) For one Magic Valley squad, twelve years of cheering would be defined in less than three minutes.

But the impact of their routine made history.

"No team from Idaho has ever been to Dallas,” co-captain Emiko Freeman said. “So to be the first team was kind of like we had to make our mark and represent Idaho, and I think we did an amazing job."

Planet Cheer's Senior 4 Team took to Dallas, TX, for the opportunity of a lifetime.

"We went to the NCA All–Star Nationals in Dallas,” said Planet Cheer owner and head coach Amanda Shaw.

“It's the biggest competition [in] the world. There were 995 teams; 22,000 cheerleaders; and 32, 000 spectators.

Even though these girls put in hours of hard work and sacrifice, they wanted to make sure they truly lived in the moment together.

"This wasn't about winning. It wasn't about getting the trophy and posting the picture on Instagram,” head captain Brooke Fitzgerald said.

“It was about being a team and being the best we as a team could be, and I think that at Dallas we really did achieve that."

In Twin Falls, Planet Cheer is the cream of the crop for cheerleaders. So when the girls headed to Dallas for their competition, they found that being surrounded by so many great competitors actually helped them improve their focus and improve their results.

"You would go to all these other places outside, and there were cheerleaders everywhere—it was almost surreal—and I think that actually really helped us,” Fitzgerald said.

“It helped us get into the mode and get into the spirit of cheerleading before we even got to the competition venue."

Once they did hit the mats, Shaw said they did better than expected.

"We took sixth in our division—6th out of 11 [teams], and I'm very proud of that team."

That proud moment also became a memory that this team will never forget.

"We had never performed the way we did in Dallas,” co-captain Kassidi Heidemann said.

“It was probably the best feeling of my life."
