Explore The Challenges Of White Clouds
Sun Valley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) What's more symbolic of summer than playing a round of golf?
In this week's "On the Course," we take you to one of the more challenging holes at White Clouds.
This segment is brought to you by the Sun Valley Resort.
"The White Clouds Nine, is a spectacular nine sitting above the Trail Creek 18, the most special hole, the most beautiful hole in my opinion is number 5 on While Clouds. It's over 600 yards Par 5, 360 degree views around the valley, you can see down the Wood River Valley, you can see Mt. Baldy, you can see the Lodge and Resort at Sun Valley and you can look down the other side and look up Highway 75 at the White Cloud Mountains. It's a beautiful challenging hole, it's definitely a three shot hole for most players, very rarely a two-shot hole for those big hitters, but then when you get up to the green, big sloping green from front to back, very challenging hole locations there as well," says Tyler Jones, Director of Golf Operations, Sun Valley.
Jones adds, "the White Clouds Course starts here near the clubhouse, near Trail Creek and works its way up the ridge, one, two and three climb steadily up the ridge. And then once you get up the top, that's where the spectacular views come into play, of the whole valley, Mr. Holding who is the owner of the resort has a monument on the 5th hole that states it's not all about the golf. And he's referring to the spectacular views that are available when you're up there."
"Without playing that golf course or hole several times, it's a challenge to figure out where to hit it off the tee, but cause you do need to lay up on your second shot in order to be in the right location for your third shot. It's a a little bit blind on your second shot, so you need to very well position yourself, fun hole, very fun hole," exclaims Jones.
