Big Plans

By S Casey

Big changes are coming to the American Legion post in Jerome.
Members are planning several renovation projects for the next year.
All they need now is funding. Michael Chapman, American Legion Member, says, “The reason we came in is the state of Idaho has set Title 65 aside as a levy to help maintain memorials of the American Legion, and we came to talk to the county about just that.”
Chapman and several other legion members asked the Jerome County Commissioners this past week for project money under title sixty–five. He says, “the levy that we're asking for is just to help us maintain what we have and help us fix up because our funds that we've been about to rake through the years are not enough to maintain our facility.” Unfortunately, title 65 money can't be added to the county's budget until October. For now, they were able to give the American Legion seven thousand dollars right now to get started. The monies will go into painting, replacing windows, things like that. We plan on broadening out the basement, a place to maintain our crosses and our things for veterans. And even more projects down the road.
We wanna make wheelchair accessible to the lodge. We plan on taking out a window and making a handicap ramp so they can come in, and a handicapped bathroom. Chapman says it won't just benefit the American Legion, but also the community. We want to fix up the facility for the community so it will benefit our community and more and more people will be able to utilize our facility.
