The Twin Falls School District has received national attention for some of its students writing skills.
The National Assessment of Education Progress is a test that shows the improvement of writing among 8th graders.
Officials say Idaho tested above the national average.
Results showed a difference in scores between low income and non low income students.
But school officials hope to close certain gaps to help students improve not only their academics but their lives as well.
Mary Lu Barry says, "Writing is going to be the most important to our students in any context whether it is the business industry, education and probably their jobs so we are very important to really increase the achievement of our students writing."
School officials say the test is given to students every five years.
The 2007 results were four percent higher than in the year 2002.
