It's about noon on a Monday.. If you're anything like me you're already thinking about the weekend. So, I figured I'd give you a preview of the weather and what to expect as we head into this weekend so you can start making plans.
Monday: The rest of today looks sunny and cold.
Tuesday: Partly to mostly cloudy as a storm system approaches from the west. It will be mild though with an expected high of about 50 in Twin Falls. It will also be breezy with SE winds between 10-20 mph. The Treasure Valley will be more windy with sustained winds around 30 mph at times. Here is a look at what the wind will be doing tomorrow at noon:
Wednesday: A weak system will be in the area and it looks like this will be the worst weather day of the week. Expect cloudy skies with chances for rain in the valleys and mountain snow. Morning commutes could be a little slick Wednesday as our futurecaster has snow showing up in the northern parts of the viewing around 9 a.m.
Four inches of snow are possible in higher elevations. I think if we see any precipitation in the valleys it will fall as mostly rain due to the fact that we expect a high of 49 degrees on Wednesday. Around a quarter inch of rain is possible with this system. Worst case scenario for valley locations would be some rain/snow mixing with accumulation of a coating to an inch of snow.
Thursday: Still looks a bit unsettled and partly cloudy. There are still chances for rain and snow in the forecast but chances are slimmer.
Friday: Things dry out and we expect partly sunny skies and cooler temperatures with highs only reaching 42 in Twin Falls.
Saturday: This weekend looks nice at this point but it will be interesting to see what a system to our south does over the weekend. At first it looked like it would not affect us but now some models are bringing it closer to the Magic Valley. The top model (GFS) has it pretty well out of our area but the bottom model (Euro) has it clipping the SE corner of Idaho.
No matter what I think we stay dry on Saturday but the proximity of that storm will determine how much cloud coverage we see. Right now I'm going with partly sunny skies and a high of 49 degrees. Overall Saturday looks nice.
Sunday: Looks great. Mostly sunny and mild with a high of 53 in Twin Falls. Oh ya, don't forget to spring forward Sunday morning at 2 a.m.
There you go.. this weekend should be nice. Hopefully the idea of nice weekend weather helps get you through this Monday. If not - here's even more good news. Spring is only sixteen days away!
Although I'm looking forward to warmer weather I think this picture pretty well sums up my thoughts about the new season:
