Rain & Snow On The Way To Southern Idaho

A very active jetstream will dip South this upcoming week and a parade of weather systems will impact the area. The first weather system will be over Northern Utah and Southern Idaho during the day on Monday.

Moisture from both the Pacific and the Southwest will collide over Southern Idaho to provide a good chance of precipitation during the day on Monday, particularly after the lunch hour. Snow levels will remain at or above 6500 feet for most of the day on Monday so any snow will be confined to the higher elevations. One to two tenths of an inch of rain could fall across portions of the Magic Valley.

Here's where we expect the rain/snow line to be Monday Evening (Green = Rain/Blue = Snow)

Colder air behind the system will begin to slide in to much of the area Monday Night and Tuesday. Another weak disturbance will kick off additional rain & snow showers on Tuesday, but with colder air in place, snow levels will continue to drop. In fact by Tuesday Afternoon much of the area could be cold enough to see the rain mix with and even change to snow as snow levels drop to or even below 4,000 feet. Warm ground temperatures will prevent any accumulations in the valleys, but it looks like we will definitely see our first "taste" of Winter this week. Here's  look at where we expect the rain/snow line by Tuesday Afternoon.

Some snowfall accumulations will likely occur in the higher elevations and in the Mountains. Again, warm ground temperatures will initially cause the snow to melt but by Tuesday Night or Wednesday, a couple of wet inches of snow could be on the ground from Hailey to Sun Valley and Ketchum.

We might get a little bit of a break in the weather on Wednesday before another weather system arrives on Thursday!
