Today could be one of the "coolest" days we've seen so far this month. We expect a high of 89 degrees in Twin Falls today. If that happens it will be the first time we've had an 80 degree high temperature since July 13. In fact, we've only had four 80 degree high temperature days this whole month! It has been hot lately but we're going to see a big cool down later this week.
Today and Tuesday look similiar weatherwise with mostly sunny skies and highs around 90. Storms are expected to develop along the Idaho, Nevada and Utah border during the afternoon. Right now there is a red flag warning in place for Cassia and southern Twin Falls Counties. Gusty winds of up to 40 mph and frequent lightning could start new fires and help spread ongoing fires.
Wednesday will be the hottest day this week with highs in the Snake River Plain reaching the upper 90s and even 100s. Things start to get interesting as a cold front approaches on Wednesday. Storms are expected to develop ahead of the front on Wednesday.
Thursday will be cooler as the front passes through and there are good chances for more storms in the mountains especially. Some of the storms could be strong to even severe. At this point it doesn't look like we'll see a lot of rain with these storms but the lightning and wind will again be the main concern.
Friday looks to be the best weather day of the week with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s and 80s!
The cool down is brief however as highs will be back at 90 for both Saturday and Sunday.
