An upper level low will drop southward into Central Oregon today which will help spark up scattered rain and snow showers.  This morning there will be a chance to see some showers across the valleys and mountains but the better chance will be later this afternoon.  Since the low will be towards our west and with cold air aloft there is a chance to see an isolated thunderstorm in the valleys.  With cold air aloft there will also be the potential to see hail embedded in a thunderstorm if we do see one.  Otherwise, if instability isn’t there expect to have scattered rain showers in the valleys with snow showers above 4,500 feet or so.  Highs this afternoon in the Magic Valley and Mini-Cassia Region will reach the low to mid 40s while the Wood River Valley will see highs in the mid 30s to the lower 40s.

The chance of rain and snow showers will persist tonight as the upper level low starts to move southwards through Nevada and then towards Arizona.  Expect overnight lows to get down into the mid 20s in the Wood River Valley and upper 20 to lower 30s in the Magic Valley and Mini-Cassia Region.  Snowfall accumulation could reach a few inches across higher elevations while some valley locations receiving a coating to an inch or two of snow.  Saturday morning through the mid-afternoon hours or so will still have a chance for scattered rain and snow showers.  However, as the low continues to drop southwards drier air will funnel in from the north and by Saturday evening around midnight or so is when most precipitation chances will go away.

Sunday will have a dry and cold northeasterly flow.  This will keep highs only in the mid to upper 30s across Southern Idaho with plenty of sunshine.  Monday of next week will have partly sunny conditions in front of another system that will bring chances of snow showers to our region come Monday night and into Tuesday.
