Location: Alturis Lake Inlet Camp Grounds between Sun Valley and Stanley

A sudden 5 to 10 minute burst ripped through at Alturis Lake last night (Sunday 7/12 /2009)causing a great deal of damage. Trees down from the main highway to the camp grounds blocked the road while at our camp site at the inlet we had A tree crush in the of a car breaking the back window out. In one area as pictured at least 5 healthy trees fell over root and all with one hitting the pictured camper where the people were inside. Mr Murphy there said he had just been outside lighting his cook stove when one of the other trees nearly hit him. One tree nearly hit our boat crashing over the propellers. Two trees fell over the camp site right next to our camper where people had been just a few hours earlier. The forest service responded as quickly as they could cutting their way up to the campsite from the main road and then assisting at our campsite as there were many trees broken and hanging near campers as well. Many were scared, but I don't believe anyone was hurt.
