Twin Falls, Idaho August 3, 2009 -- Concrete Desert Skateboards will donate 25 percent of all profits to Idaho groups raising funds to build skate parks in their community.
Company founder Jason Bobango said he sees the benefits of skateboarding as a constructive alternative to video games, drugs, and gangs for local youth.
“Concrete Desert Skateboardsʼ mission is to provide the equipment and facilities needed for Idaho skateboarders to practice their skills and become better athletes,” said Bobango, a local social worker.
Bobango said he feels that when many people think of skateboarding they think of drugs and rebellion, rather than an actual sport that requires skill, coordination, and discipline.
“Skateboarding requires the athletes to set goals and accomplish them. These are all valuable life lessons all kids should learn,” Bobango said. “It is time for parents and businesses to support skateboarding in the same way they support baseball, basketball and football.”
In an industry that Bobango feels holds the main purpose of “taking your kid’s money,” he wanted to start a new kind of company that would give back to its local community and foster the growth of the positive aspects of the sport.
“These kids need places to practice these life skills and develop their athletic abilities,” he said.
Concrete Desert Skateboards and its full line of equipment will be sold directly to the consumer through its website. Bobango said this type of direct marketing cuts out the middle man and allows more money to be donated to the organizations building the skate parks.
