TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - A major announcement came down from the NJCAA involving junior college sports.

Due to COVID-19, most competition will be moved until the spring semester.

So how does this affect CSI sports?

Well only two fall sports will remain as scheduled, cross country and rodeo.

Volleyball has been moved until January with championships in April.

All winter sports competition will also begin in January, with a majority of championship seasons moved from March until April.

So for CSI, this will affect the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

As for spring sports, there will only be minor adjustments needed with scheduling.

But to the coaches, this really comes as no surprise.

“We’re not going to have our whole team in during the fall, we won’t have some of our international kids until the spring. But we’ll use the time to get stronger. Usually in the fall, we’re doing conditioning, but we’ll get stronger and better shape than we normally would because we have more time to prepare,” explained CSI volleyball coach Jim Cartisser.

Randy Rogers, the women’s basketball coach at CSI added, “this is nothing compared to what people are going through. It’s going to be different for people to have basketball and volleyball at the same time, it will be unique. We can make the most of it.”

Men’s basketball coach Jeff Reinert chimed in as well, stating, “but we’re just happy to have a season and be able to get back with our guys. Our guys are calling all the time and asking can we get back to Twin? Can we get back to Twin?” “Didn’t you guys want to go home? Now you want to get back, it’s so refreshing!” He added, “they want to go to Hutch {Hutchinson, Kansas, site of the national tournament}. That’s what their goal is.”

Volleyball will have a maximum of 21 competition dates and basketball is allotted a maximum of 22 games.
