Jerome grinds out a victory over Minico, win streak reaches seven

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — There are three teams undefeated in Great Basin Conference play entering Tuesday night, and they’re all in action.

We take you to Jerome, where the Tigers hosted the Minico Spartans. Spartans looked to end a three-game losing streak.

Opening minute, Scott Cook driving, takes the off-balance jumper over 6′8″ Treyson Fletcher, it’s good. The sophomore with a game-high 25 points.

Later in the first, loose ball, Coltin Manning comes up with it, in transition, finds Kent Merrill, who gets hacked, count the bucket, he converts the three-point play. 5-3 game in favor of the Spartans.

Jerome answers on their next possession, Alfredo Ortiz sneaks in a bounce pass to Gavin Capps and the junior with the finish.

Despite Jerome leading by double-digits going into the fourth, Minico fought back and made it close, but it’s the home team that stays perfect in conference play, after the 51-47 win.

They’ve won seven straight.

Mike Lloyd added 11.

Brevin Trenkle paced the Spartans with 16 points.

Jerome improves to 3-0 in conference, 7-1 overall. Minico falls to 1-1 in conference, 1-5 overall.


Valley 71, Buhl 51: The Vikings produced a team-record 12 three-pointers. Garrett Christensen led the attack with 16 points, including four three-pointers. 14 of those points were in the first quarter. Jadon Johnson added 15 points, on five three’s. Eli Azevedo paced the Indians with 11.
