NAMPA, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The 3A tennis singles championship was an all Sun Valley Community School affair at Ridgevue High School.

Gabe Delgado went against Aaron Gathrid, senior versus senior and Delgado won in straight sets, defeating his teammate and friend. Gathrid actually won the 3A district title, while Delgado placed second.

He was pleased with Saturday’s upset.

“We actually shared a hotel room during this tournament and we were trash talking this whole tournament. I said ‘morning’ and he said, ‘ready to lose today?’

Delgado’s big win helped Sun Valley win the 3A team title in boys tennis, repeating as champions from when they won it all in 2019. The Cutthroats girls placed fourth.

Logan Anderson of Gooding placed third, after knocking off Josh Francis of Clearwater Valley, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles, the combination of Nils Huss and Caelin Bradshaw from Sun Valley defeated Sam Peterson and Spencer Blaser of Sugar-Salem, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 for the championship.

In girls doubles, Sun Valley’s Avery Griffin and Whitney Janotta placed fourth after falling to Brooklyn Mann and Hailey Sitts of Parma, 4-6, 3-6.

For mixed doubles, the combination of Gretel Huss and Campbell Spoor placed second, after falling to Megan Hancock and Weber of Parma, 3-6, 4-6 in the championship.
