MIDDLETON, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Raft River High School track and field team set three state classification and five school records this past weekend, not to mention winning 12 different events.

Utah State University signees Karlee and Kaybree Christensen set state and school records in the 1600 meter run. Karlee is the 1A state champion (5:12.35), while her sister is the runner-up (5:13.85). Kaybree also set a state and school record in the 3200 meter run (11:12.92). Karlee was the runner-up (11:25.44).

The pair beat 27 year-old records previously set by Becky Ward of Richfield in 1994.

“After sophomore year, we came close to a classification record, so after that it was our goal, we had certain paces each lap we set, that we wanted to hit and break those,” Kaybree explained.

“We trained for and worked up to that during the season, so we wouldn’t drop off from that when we got to state,” Karlee added. “We just had our dad on the side and he was shouting our lap distances to us and we were actually too far behind in the mile, so we almost didn’t get, but then luckily it was a race between us at the end, we were able to pull if off.”

The final state record holder is the girls medley team (1:52.44). The combination of Sadie Campbell, Jessi Knudsen, Libby Boden and Heidi Harper beat a record accomplished by Deary in 2017.

The girls helped the Lady Trojans win their third consecutive state championship.
