KIMBERLY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — After helping Kimberly take third at the 3A baseball state championships, this new graduate is taking his talents to West Virginia.

Zak Abbott signed with Salem University, a Division II school on Wednesday afternoon.

Abbott chose Salem after also looking at schools such as Arizona State University.

He’s been on varsity the past two years and his favorite baseball memory dates back to eighth grade when he threw a no-hitter and broke his arm in the same game.

Abbott will be pitching for the Tigers.

“I think it was a really good school for me, perfectly set up and the program was better for me,” Abbott said. “I thought it was a little bit better than most of the schools I was looking at.”

Abbott started playing baseball at a young age when his dad made him try out the sport.
