Lighthouse Christian School standout signs with Southern Nevada
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A standout at Lighthouse Christian School is continuing her basketball career in college.
Kynlee Thornton signed with College of Southern Nevada, who plays in the same league as the College of Southern Idaho. Thornton is coming off an epic senior season. With Lighthouse Christian moving up a classification, she helped her Lady Lions win the District IV 1A DII Tournament and earned Player of the Year honors for the Snake River Conference in both basketball and volleyball.
Thornton also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the Sawtooth Conference in 2020, helping the Lions win the District IV 1A DII Tournament.
CSN just wrapped up its first season in women’s basketball since the 2002-03 season, according to the Las Vegas Review. It was a struggle, but one of the coaches, Dan Savage, actually made the trip to Twin Falls to attend Thornton’s signing and wanted to see what his recruit was like in person. The head coach puts him in charge of recruiting academics, culture and basketball abilities. He said, they “knocked this one out of the park.”
A member of the 1,000 point club, Thornton reached that point during this year’s district tournament after only two seasons, since she transferred from Filer High School following the 2018-19 school year.
On the season she averaged more than 19 points, 12 rebounds, six blocks and three assists per game.
“Right off the bat, the first time I talked to their coaches, they were just super friendly and I already felt connected like a family that I felt a part of,” Thornton explained.
“I’m excited to watch her continue her basketball career at the next level and she’s going to continue to do great things,” added Tia Standlee, her coach at Lighthouse Christian School.
Thornton wants to pursue dental hygiene and hopes to continue her playing career after her JUCO stint.
