NAMPA, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —Transgender Democrat Melissa Sue Robinson announced on Tuesday her candidacy for governor of Idaho.

Robinson says she’s running to help save the educational system in Idaho and fight fascism that has been “brought forward by Lt Governor, Janice McGeachin, Rep. Barbara Ehardt, The Idaho Freedom Foundation, Wayne Hoffman, and other far-right-wing Republicans.”

Robinson’s name and face may seem familiar to those who live in the Treasure Valley. She has run unsuccessfully for Nampa mayor three times and several state offices, including a 2020 run for the Idaho Senate. Now she will be running in the Democratic primary for next year’s gubernatorial race.

“A vote for Robinson will be a vote for democracy, equality, diversity, and the US constitution,” Robinson said.

The 70-year-old has a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Michigan State University and is currently enrolled in Political Science courses at Boise State University.
