Horse racing at Jerome Fairgrounds returns for 2021
“Idaho is a different breed of racing.”
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Horse racing made its return to Jerome on Sunday when the Jerome Horse Racing Association hosted its first of two Pari-Mutuel events this month.
For those in attendance, you get all the fun of horse racing, the weather, the food, the betting and the races, without all the extra showmanship that bigger tracks have.
“Idaho is a different breed of racing,” said Equibase representative Kade Caverhill. “It’s more wholesome and hometown feel than if you go to Will Roger or you go to, you know, Lone Star, Remmington.”
If you’re lucky, like Conner Reed and Mannie Mulrony, you may even get a chance to see the horses you cheer for cross the finish line first.
“We used to live in the Dalles and wed go down and watch the Portland races and stuff like that and that was always a lot of fun,” said Mulrony. “It’s always fun when you’re a little kid and there is popcorn and food, but it’s a lot funner when you’re like, ‘oh that one’s cool I bet it’ll win,’ and sure enough it wins.”
Despite his young age, Murony is no stranger to the tracks and he was showing some of his family the ropes and even offering some insider info.
“Well actually, my mom and dad have been down here a couple more times, so I’ve been down here a few times,” said Mulrony. “We really actually, he picked that horse because we know the trainer and that’s how it kind of ended up.”
The next racing event held at the Jerome Horse Racing Association event will be held on June 20th at the Jerome Fairgrounds.
