HAILEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A pair of Wood River High School standouts are looking to make up for a shortened senior season, by playing soccer in college.

Goalkeeper Atzel Jimenez signed with North Idaho College, while Jaime Avila is going to the College of Wooster in Ohio.

NIC competes in the Northwest Athletic Conference, while OWU is a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Wolverines only got to compete in four non-conference games last fall, so the boys are definitely looking to make up for lost time.

“We’re going to get to experience a home crowd again, we’re going to experience games, night games, day games, travel, every aspect we missed we hope to make it up in college,” explained Avila.

“Yeah and it will be a lot bigger than high school, soccer is, so it will be very exciting,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez will join Michael De La Torre of Canyon Ridge at North Idaho.

Avila will get to compete against his former teammate, Edgar Salamanca who is at Ohio Wesleyan.
