Dereka Kay recently joined the KMVT News Team as a news reporter.
Dereka is a Michigan native and graduated from The University of California, Berkeley in May 2022. In Berkeley, Dereka worked for NBC Bay Area News as a content producer. She also was a producer and investigative reporter during her time at UC Berkeley as a member of the Investigative Reporting Program. While there she contributed to a national investigation about AI surveillance software.

Last week KMVT reported that The American Trucking Association had a new record high of more than 82,000 shortages in 2024 on truck drivers. Twin Falls Public Library holds their weekly elementary STEM activity in the Children Services Department on Tuesdays starting at four in the afternoon.The activity is an hour-long event with hand-on activities designed to get kids excited about science, tech and math. Kids from 8-years-old and up are allowed to attend. The library asks that if children are under the age of eight to bring a parent to assist them.

Jerome Animal Shelter is in need of the community’s help with identifying lost pets or adopting a new fur friend. The Jerome shelter is a small facility that only has up to 14 kennels available to house lost, found and abandoned dogs within the city and county. On average the shelter takes in roughly 500 dogs a year and has no ability to facilitate any cats or other exotic pets.
