Ski program aims to build 'confidence' in students; seeks volunteers

SUN VALLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The Blaine County School District is looking for volunteers for it's ski program.

During the winter, the district's elementary schools take their students on a recreational educational trip at the Sun Valley's Ski Resort.

Bellevue Elementary Principal Mark Sauvageau said the program can build a student's confidence.

"We see team building, we see kids completely come out of their shell," Sauvageau said. "Those that might not be a shining star in their classrooms, they come out here and they're number one. They find a whole new self. It's pretty impressive to watch."

Volunteers can help the students know how to ski, but before they do Sauvageau said anyone interested in helping out must go through a background check.

Five schools participate in the program .The public can view the list of schools and times on here.
