Cassia County deputies seize more than $5K worth of marijuana

MALTA, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - A New York man is behind bars on charges for eluding police officers an dtrafficking marijuana.

Cassia County Sheriff Jay Heward said a rancher called officials at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

The rancher said a man in a silver Mustang was trespassing on their property in the Malta area.

After the report, Patrick O'Neill allegedly fled the scene and led deputies on a short pursuit.

Heward said when O'Neill was stopped, they found 1.7 pounds of marijuana, which is equivalent to $5,000.

Authorities also seized about $4,500 in cash along with contraband.

O'Neill is being held in the Mini-Cassia Justice Center.
