TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Dancing with the Twin Falls Stars is Friday, and contestants are gearing up.
The contestants competing for the mirrored ball trophy are Craig Kingsbury, Brittany Cooper, Mike Gemar, Shawnee Kyle, Winnie Christiansen, and Ryan Nesmith who have been paired up with pro dancers from the Utah Ballroom Dance Company.
This event is a fundraiser for Voices against Violence, a shelter that provides services for victims of domestic violence, as well as other issues.
They're then given a dance routine, and have just five hours total to practice.
Some of the dances this year are a waltz, swing and salsa.
Producer Jesse Maher, with the Utah Ballroom Dance Company, explained how the dances were chosen.
"What we typically will do is when we come in the first day, we'll take some time to get to know the personalities or we'll ask a local person about the personalities of the stars in the community, and try to identify a dance that's going to best suit their personality,” Maher stated.
The participants are judged on three categories: Amount of donations, performance and audience participation.
The winner receives the mirror ball trophy.
The event is Friday at 8 p.m. at the Orephum Theater, and tickets can be bought then or in advance online through the link.
