After a controversial public hearing last week the Lincoln County Commissioners voted Tuesday unanimously to pass the annual county budget as proposed.

Included in the budget was a reclassification for the commissioners from part time to full time, which increased their annual salary from about $19,000 a year to just over $31,000, a nearly 66 percent raise.

District 2 commissioner Rebecca Wood said the increase in hours and pay will allow them to do more for the county.

"Change is always difficult, but I think once they see projects happening and what we're able to accomplish I think they'll realize they needed more of a full time commissioner," Wood said.

With the change in hours each of the commissioners will take an administration day in office when they can meet with county residents.

They will also add a fourth commissioners meeting a month to their schedule.

The entire budget for Lincoln County was raised just over 1 percent.
