TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) St. Luke's employees are already signing up for their flu shots.

Making sure the staff are protected from the virus so they can better serve the community.

The nasal spray option has not been available the last two years because it was proven to be ineffective.

A reminder, sometimes the side effects may make someone think they have the flu.

But contrary to popular belief you cannot get the disease from the vaccine.

It is a killed virus.

The vaccine is important for people to get in order to attain herd immunity.

This year many shots are a quadrivalent, means it protects against four strains.

“The more people that are vaccinated the less likely we have an outbreak in our community,” said Angela Laughlin, Registered Nurse. “Thereby protecting those people that are more vulnerable whether it be young children or the elders or those that can be vaccinated by decreasing that spread of that disease.”

You're encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible since it takes up to two weeks to go into effect.

If you do find yourself diagnosed with the flu, stay home so as not to infect others.
