Hollister Elementary receives donation from mayor

HOLLISTER, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Hollister mayor Jayne Self stopped by Hollister Elementary Friday to drop off a $1,000 check.

"It's called a mayors walk. So I had to walk 10,000 steps every day for a month. I had a Fitbit on, so it managed everything, sends it right to them, so they knew that I did it,” Self explained.

Principal and fourth grade teacher Jenni Jacobson said they a plan to put it to good use.

"We’re going to use it to help replenish our PE equipment and our playground supplies, and possibly if we need snacks for our programs,” Jacobson stated.

And even though Self had to walk at least 300,000 steps in one month, she calls it a fantastic opportunity.

"Our school is very, very small, and so the council and I are going to do whatever we can to help them,” Self stated.

Jacobson agreed, calling it fantastic.

"We don't get a lot of funding from our district, because we are so small. So all of the donations and all of the grants that we're able to get are amazing. They really make all the difference,” Jacobson said.
