Tips to avoid holiday weight gain

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - For some, the next two weeks could be a vacation with constant family gatherings and parties.

Dietitian Isaac Wright, with St. Luke's Magic Valley, suggests going to a party on a slightly full stomach so you don't fill up with the food there.

"If you could fill up on healthier foods, such as vegetables, lean proteins before you go to your desserts, that is also best," he added.

He said that if someone is drinking, they should set a limit.

"Because that can diminish your ability to have control of what you eat," he said.

Wright said that breaks should be taken after eating a full course meal.

"Then have your dessert later and then you're more likely to have less," he said.

While the holidays are a busy time, Wright said you should try to find time to exercise.

"Set goals for yourself before you go and that way you know what you’re supposed to do and you won’t deviate from that," he said.
