TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - From short Dachshunds to Great Danes, many dogs ran loose at Dierkes Lake on Saturday.

This is all part of the fifth annual Pooch Splash hosted by the People for Pets Magic Valley Humane Society.

The event included a full agility course with a volunteer trainer, a raffle, and something new added to the event--a photo booth.

This is the only day dogs get to be off leash at the lake, which let dogs play fetch in the water.

"Off leash makes dogs less aggressive because of their heredity and they get to interact with these other dogs in a more natural way that is not being tethered," explained Debbie Blackwood, Twin Falls Animal Shelter Director.

Blackwood says the pre-sales weren't huge, but the attendance turned out pretty good. All funds go towards caring for the 4,000 animals the shelter receives every year.

Additionally, she wants to remind you to call the shelter if you lose your pets. She also says to make sure to keep your pets vaccinated because the weather changes can cause your pets to be more susceptible to viruses.
