Magic Reservoir continues to spill; areas affected downstream

By  |

Shoshone, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The Big Wood Canal Company began releasing water from Magic Reservoir last week, but water began coming in faster than they were letting it out.

Wednesday it reached capacity.

Magic Reservoir is pushing out just under 7,000 cubic feet of water per second, but water is coming into the reservoir as quickly as it's leaving.

And because the reservoir is full, the water is going over the spillway. Canal company administrators told KMVT Friday night they are watching snow pack and water levels daily and plan to keep the current reservoir levels until further notice.

Residents and law enforcement in Blaine and Lincoln counties are reporting flooding along several roads near the dam and reservoir.

West Magic Road off of Highway 75 is closed. National Weather Service in Pocatello warns that flood waters may reach Highway 75 in some places and other county roads.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
