Oakley community gather for Pumpkin Chunkin contest

OAKLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - Oakley high school FFA sponsored its second annual Pumpkin Chunkin' contest. About 80 people gathered in an empty field to watch Air cannons of various sizes launch pumpkins.

Cannons use huge volumes of compressed air to launch pumpkins at accelerated speeds to varying distances.

Two of the cannons were so big that it required cranes to hold the barrels. Those cannons were able to launch pumpkins nearly 1 mile away.

Smaller cannons were available for younger children and littler pumpkins.

The FFA students cooked lunch and onlookers sat in lawn chairs as pumpkin Chunking enthusiasts enjoyed the exploding pumpkins.
