Body found in burnt Rupert home, police looking for owner
"All of a sudden we heard this boom and we look around and then we step out the door and see the fire," said neighbor Susan Fowler.
Folwer and her husband were doing yard work Wednesday evening when a neighboring house went up in flames.
"We were hearing some bang bang and so the cops come running over and says, 'we gotta evacuate get out of the house as fast as you can because there's ammunition going off,'" she said.
"Law enforcement had surrounded the perimeter for protection because we didn't know if it was an explosion and why it exploded,” said Roger Davis, Rupert City Fire Chief.
Not only did the fire destroy the entire house, but a body was discovered Wednesday night.
"We did find a body inside the house, we don't know who it is, they sent the body off for autopsy and I have not heard the response back yet on the identification on the body yet," Davis said.
Police say the house belongs to Dale Mounce, who is wanted for failing to appear on three counts of felony aggravated battery with a 9 millimeter pistol.
"I’ve met him a couple of times but I didn't know him very well at all, he just, kind of reclusive on his own. I know he was in trouble with the law and that's pretty much it. But I know there was a warrant out for him and I guess that's why all the cops were here when the fire went up," Fowler said.
Authorities ask anyone with knowledge of Mounce's whereabouts to contact the Rupert Police Department at 208-434-2330.
