TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — UPDATED: Shopko announced more stores closures in Idaho, including the Twin Falls location.
In January, Shopko announced three stores closures in the Treasure Valley. As of Wednesday, Shopko listed seven stores closures in the state of Idaho, among more than 100 stores company-wide on its website. Idaho has a total of 12 Shopko locations, according to its website.
Shopko’s Idaho locations slated to close include two in Boise and ones in Bonners Ferry, Nampa, Orofino, Pocatello, Twin Falls. The Twin Falls location is slated to close May 12, according to the company website. The Twin Falls Shopko was part of the Magic Valley Mall.
On Thursday, the Woodbury Corporation issued a statement on behalf of Magic Valley Mall saying in light of the closure, it will continue to issues new retail, entertainment, dining and beverage options to the community.
"Recent new stores such as Hobby Lobby and Olive Garden have been very well received by the Magic Valley community, and this announcement creates a new opportunity to continue to meet current consumer tastes,” the statement said.
On Monday, KMVT reported the Twin Falls Shopko pharmacy had closed. Shopko spokeswoman Michelle Hansen said the company made the difficult decision to exit the pharmacy business. In an email, Hansen said many of the pharmacies were sold through a "court-supervised auction process." The Twin Falls Shopko pharmacy records were bought by Walgreens. The Shopko pharmacy closed on Jan. 20.
According to a news release issued by Shopko on Jan. 16, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company operates more than 360 stores in 26 states throughout the Central, Western and Pacific Northwest.
