Support groups available for those grieving during the holidays
The holidays are a time to gather with friends and family.
But what about those dealing with loss or feeling alone during this time?
Surviving the holidays is a support group that provides planning and methods to get through the holidays after experiencing a divorce or death of a loved one.
The holidays can amplify emotions of grief and the group wants to encourage those who may be in any stage of the grieving process to attend their workshop.
The workshop will be at Lighthouse Christian Church from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., lunch will be provided and the cost is $15 at the door. There is no pre-registration.
Facilitators of the day’s events have gone through the program as well.
"There's something to be said about sitting next to someone that has gone through something similar that you have,” said Tim Voss, facilitator. “There's that unwanted sometimes but there's that comradery of oh you've lost a family member, I've lost a family member. And you get it."
"When they first come in everybody has their sad faces, they don't want to talk, they feel like they're very isolated and that I'm the only one,” said Doug Roe, facilitator. “By about the second or third session you start to see the changes in their face, their attitude. They continue to grow, they continue to heal."
If you can't attend Saturday and are interested in a longer program, Doug Roe facilitates a 13 week grief share classes seminar that you could sign up for.
