Twin Falls Sheriff's Office reacts to death of Provo officer

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Provo, Utah officer Joe Shinners was attempting to arrest a fugitive who allegedly was threatening violence toward law enforcement, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The suspected killer of Officer Shinners was wounded in the altercation, and is reportedly being treated at Utah Valley Hospital.

The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office as well as other southern Idaho agencies paid their respects to the fallen officer.

Our prayers are with the family and friends as well as the police department there," Sgt. Kenneth Mencl explained, "it's our hope that as with funeral announcements are made later on the week or next week, we can send someone from the sheriff's office to show our support," Mencl stated.

A press conference was held Sunday, where the Provo Police Chief Richard Ferguson posthumously promoted Shinners to the rank of Master Officer.
