Weather blog: Dreaming of a white Christmas?

By  |

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) During the month of December there’s one question I hear more often than others, “are we going to see a white Christmas?” We’ve been fortunate the last couple of Christmases to have snow but the odds of a white Christmas across Southern Idaho isn’t actually that high. Historically for Jerome, Twin Falls and Burley the odds of a white Christmas is between 35 to 40 percent. These based on historical records from 1981 to 2010.

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas in 2018 I may be the bearer of bad news. My current odds of a white Christmas for the Magic Valley, including Burley, Twin Falls, Jerome and up to Shoshone are around 25 percent. There just doesn’t appear to be any promising systems moving in between now and Christmas and the one system that could bring snow looks to arrive after Christmas.

This is all subject to change and if it does the KMVT weather team will keep you updated.
