HEYBURN – Rayola Robinson Hamilton, a 91-year-old resident of Heyburn, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at her home.
She was born in Grant, Jefferson County, Idaho, on Sept. 7, 1927, the daughter of Warren Sherman and Leone Bernice Taylor Robinson. She attended grade school in the area and graduated from Midway High School in Lewisville, Idaho, in 1945. After graduation, she attended a railroad telegraphy course for the Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello. At completion of the course, she was sent to Wapi, Minidoka County, Idaho, to work, and there she met Gene Hamilton of Heyburn. They were married in Dillon, Montana, July 20, 1946, and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to Heyburn where they lived and raised their family for the rest of their lives.
Rayola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in several different positions in the Church throughout her life. Her favorite calling was being a member of the ward choir and leading the congregation in singing for many years until her health did not permit it. In 1957, Rayola started working for the Unites States Postal Service and, after 30 years as a rural carrier, she was able to retire.
Rayola was a Boise State football fan and never missed a game. She loved to square dance with her husband, go fishing and camping, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.
After her health failed her son, Terry, moved in with her and took care of her for the last four years of her life. It was very special to her that she was able to stay in her own home with her illness.
She was survived by her sons, Terry, Mark, and Rodney (Kim); a very special daughter, Joanne (Steve) Pearson; two grandchildren she raised from infants, Cassey (Brad) Stoker and John Hamilton; additional grandchildren, Alex Hamilton, Tina Stapleman, Monica Bair, Stephanie Ulrich, Scott Pearson, Trenton Hamilton, Megan Hamilton, and Matthew Hamilton; 18 great- grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren - with one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; her husband, Gene; and sons, Doug and John “Paul.”
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Horizon Home Health & Hospice, Lanessa Robins and Sheyeanne Pawson.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Heyburn Ward, 300 S. 500 W. of Heyburn. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and at the church on Thursday, from noon until 12:45 p.m.
