Being thankful for sports
Thanksgiving, a time to feast, spend time with loved ones and of course enjoy the time off from work and school. But it's also a chance to reflect on the things you're thankful for, here are my top five.
No. 5: A team other than Cleveland and Golden State to start the NBA season off hot. The Boston Celtics won 16 in a row after dropping its first two games of the season.
No. 4: Two state champions and two perfect seasons. Carey and Declo football both entered the state championship unblemished in 2017. That didn't end abruptly, thank goodness. Both earned state championships for their respective towns. For the Panthers, it's number six and the Hornets, number three.
No. 3: The Houston Astros, with the 17th best payroll in Major League Baseball, the Astros knocked off the Dodgers who had the highest in the National League. Plus, Houston got its first ever World Series championship, not a bad way to finish the year blemished by severe weather damage.
No. 2: Rivalry weekend, every team in the top nine of the College Football Playoff will play another team ranked in the committee's top 25, including four games matching top playoff contenders.
No. 1: Boise State Football's turnaround. After not winning the division the past two seasons, the Broncos enter Thanksgiving weekend 7-0 in Mountain West play and a chance to sweep Fresno State to claim the milk can.
