BUHL, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The two matchups between Buhl and Bliss ended in ties during the regular season. But with a state berth on the line Monday night, it's advance to the district championship or put yourself in the elimination bracket.
The High Desert Conference is easily the toughest of the 3A contenders.
"Everyone is looking to win, we can't overlook anyone, explained Victor Quezada of Buhl.
But the Bears lost most of their starters from last year's season and went through five ties this year.
For Alex Cruz of Bliss, he finds that "it puts more pressure on me since last year when we lost a lot of seniors." "I had to work harder this year, can't rely on anyone but yourself."
Bliss' Kaleb Gabriel added, "I feel like everyone from our team has improved, even the freshmen, they've worked their butts off."
Even with those obstacles, the three seed representing a co-op of four schools (Bliss) is as dangerous as ever.
Buhl knows how important the value of not overlooking its opponent, especially this time of year.
"I was hoping that this season they won't be as good, but they came back as strong as ever," explained Dustin Dominguez of Buhl.
Quezada added, "they're hungry for the "W", but we are too."
Sebastian Loza of Buhl said, "I mean it doesn't always come down to the best team, but the team with the biggest heart." "I think with our team, we sometimes have the most skill of the teams, but the heart comes out the most, it's biggest thing we have."
Bliss ended up winning, 1-0.
Meanwhile, the Community School shut out Filer 4-0 ( (William Everitt 2, Ridley Lindstrom & Kai Nelson). With the win, the Cutthroats improve to 16-2.
CS hosts the Bears on Wednesday in yet another district championship, starting at 4.30 p.m. Both teams are state bound.
Buhl hosts Filer in a winner to state play-in game, loser out. The play-in game will take place on Saturday at Timberline High School.
The Lady Cutthroats are still undefeated at 17-0, with a 15-0 mark in league. They shut out Declo 5-0 in the semi-final (Lily Fitzgerald 3, Chloe Tanous, Rylee Whorton) Assists: Aubrey Duffield).
